CHILD PROTECTION MINUTE TAKERS

This one day training is not intended to increase literacy skills, computer skills or speed writing. The training is designed to increase participant awareness of why conferences take place, give information about what constitutes child abuse and maltreatment and enable a greater understanding of minute takers' own and other’s roles within the conference and such meetings. This will enable minute takers to develop an understanding of the significance of their recording in terms of context and content.

 

The main objectives of this one or two-day training is to increase participants awareness of:

 

  • Requirements of a minute taker

 

  • CP procedures & process

 

  • Legislation

 

  • Purpose and process of CP conferences, differences in initial & review conferences

 

  • The strengths and weaknesses of minute taking within the conference

 

  • Preparation for CP conferences

 

  • Recording – key concepts

 

  • Minuting format, what they are & why they are required

 

  • Distinguishing fact from opinion, allegation and observation; accuracy

 

  • Relationship between Chair & minute taker

 

  • Partnership, Working Together, child, parent & other roles

 

  • Difficult situations within the conference

 

  • Stress & emotional upset, personal impact, own support

 

  • Basic awareness of CP – signs & symptoms

 

  • Value base – personal / professional system and how they influence the minuting process
