DISTANCE LEARNING WITH OSIRIS TRAINING
PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS COURSE IS NOT
CURRENTLY AVAILABLE
AND THERE IS NO SET DATE WHEN IT WILL BE INTRODUCED
We are very pleased to offer a
Distance Learning course on Child Protection. The course is intended for all
those who have contact with children and who need to know and should know
the essentials of child protection and what to do if you have concerns about a
child which may have suffered or or is likely to suffer maltreatment.
There are many people who have
contact with children but who find it difficult to attend training courses in
child protection or who want to revise or supplement their knowledge. However,
if you are able to attend a training course in your locality we would strongly
urge you to make the effort as talking with other people about what is or is not
child protection is very important. There is, and nor can there be, any real
substitute for this as the personal values and experiences which you bring to
bear on the issue can make the difference between you ignoring what you
shouldn't ignore or perceiving harm or ill treatment which isn't there. This
subject is a colossally difficult one and even for those of us that have worked
in child protection for many years it remains difficult and problematic. There
really are no easy answers.
The course is England and Wales
based. The course is available to anyone from Scotland or overseas who wants to
learn about child protection but note that the historical and legal aspects are
particular to England and Wales.
Please NOTE that this course is
only available HARD COPY (through the post) and an online version is not
planned.
The course covers the following:

Historical Aspects of Child
Protection

& Wales)
-
Your Values and Child
Maltreatment

The course proceeds on a
self-study basis with various self-assessment tasks built in. You are allocated
up to 4 hours tutor email time at the start of your study for the purposes of
any questions that arise in the course of your studies. You are allowed up to
one year from the time of your initial registration to complete the course. When
you have completed your self-study you may submit an examination paper which
includes a brief essay. A course completion Certificate is issued only to
those people who have submitted the examination papers and who reach the
necessary pass mark (45%). There is no published grading system such as
"Distinction, Merit etc" and we will simply tell you whether you have
passed or not. Should you fail the examination you will get feedback on why. You
may resubmit once only at no extra cost. Please note that this is not an
"accredited" course in terms of it being linked in any way to any
College of Further Education. However, it does comprise the distillation of more
than 50 years of post qualification experience in Child Protection work in the
U.K.
You may purchase the course
without intending to submit for any examination but we will not issue you with
any Certificate in such an instance.
