PERSONAL HYPNO-ANALYSIS
(Alan Cooper: Hypnotherapy / Psychotherapy Services)

I developed an over-riding interest in the minds of other people from the time when I received a punch in the mouth from a fellow Nursery child at the tender age of 4 years. It came as a mighty shock to me (I wasn't abused as a child and had never experienced being hit before) and I just couldn't understand why my "friend" took the action he did. The boy in question went on to become a feared (by many) neighbourhood bully and developed into becoming a violent gangster. I'm not going to tell you the rest of this story (which is true and has a tragic end) but you may get some clue into what the boy's early life was like by reading our Information Page on Attachment Theory.

I never lost my interest in how minds work and over time it developed into a deep fascination and study of the philosophy of mind and psychoanalysis. I undertook a personal psychoanalysis lasting 15 months with a Freudian analyst 1984 - 1985 and later trained in 1989 with La Roche College in Hypnotherapy and a little later with the Institute of Analytical Hypnotherapy (IAH - now the IAPH) in 1991, gaining two Diplomas in Hypnotherapy.

I am a registered member of the International Association of Pure Hypnoanalysts (IAPH).

In 2000, I trained with Richard Bandler and Paul McKenna, becoming a Licensed Practitioner of Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP). I have also undertaken training in Attachment Theory at the University of London and have trained and worked as an Approved Social Worker (ASW) under the auspices of the Mental Health Act. I have also undertaken a considerable amount of training for Mental Health professionals (see Mental Health Courses).

I have appeared on BBC and Sky Television and Radio as a consultant in matters relating to the practice of hypnotherapy and psychological problems. You can find out more about Alan by reading the About Us page and page 1 of the Director's pages.

Since 1989, I have practiced as a psychotherapist specialising in psychoanalysis using hypnosis (hypno-analysis) as an aid to the technique of free association, and over the intervening years, I have treated many thousands of people for all manner of personal problems.  Not all of this treatment has been via analytical methods and I have used various modes of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) in accordance with perceived client need. However, the bulk of my work has been psychoanalytically based and that is the prime direction I am taking for the future.

Therefore, please note that I do not undertake short hypnosis-based "suggestion-based therapy" for problems like smoking, weight loss etc. My concentration is mainly on hypno-analytic work for personal growth or the resolution of trauma and psychological problems.

However, I will undertake, if appropriate, short term work (introductory + one to several sessions) for more specific issues such as anxiety or specific psychological problems. However, it may be that these conditions are brought about by underlying issues and a course of personal analysis may well be the more appropriate treatment. It all depends on a careful (and free) Initial Assessment.

Twelve Session Personal Analysis package offer

From 2011, I am able to offer a course of brief personal analysis comprising an introductory fact-finding initial meeting followed by ten further sessions and finalising in an ending session. Each session lasts the traditional 50 minutes and is held in East London (five minute walk from East Ham tube station). Car parking is possible in nearby streets. Every client is treated with utmost confidentiality in accordance with the generally accepted groundrules of psychotherapy.

If you are suffering psychological problems such as anxiety, depression or are haunted by traumas from the past, you can read about the benefits of Hypno-Analysis on the Home Page of the IAPH website. My own model of working is not exclusively Freudian but is informed by Attachment Theory and modern psychoanalytic theory, particularly of the relational school of psychoanalysis. There is an emphasis on the client - therapist relationship as a mechanism that will lead to the uncovering of psychological issues.

You may simply wish to learn about yourself - about who you really are and how you react to some people in certain ways and not to others in a similar way. A course of personal analysis is thus akin to a voyage of discovery about yourself. It is a unique learning experience. It is not the same thing as a full blown psychoanalysis which can often last 3 to 5 years (and is very expensive) but it will certainly make a significant difference to your life for the vast majority of people undertaking it.  For many, a course of Hypno-Analysis will result in the complete resolution of personal problems.

The cost of the Personal Analysis course per session is £40 payable at least one session in advance from the first session or the entire 12 session programme is available for pre-payment of £450, thus saving £30. Each session is normally held weekly.

The option is available to pay sessionally at a rate of £45 per session.

Payment can by made via PayPal or cheque.

Shorter Therapeutic Interventions

As noted above, there is not any kind of debar on shorter periods of therapy - every case is assessed on its merits and some conditions can be treated successfully using various techniques but it should be reckoned that most treatment for trauma and psychological issues will take between 8 and 12 sessions. If a case is resolved before 12 sessions then fees are adjusted accordingly.

Any kind of therapy is intensely personal which is why I offer the Initial Consultation as free of all cost. It is your choice as to go ahead with the therapy or find another therapist. There is absolutely no obligation.
