KINSHIP CARE ASSESSMENT
Please see our Risk Options section This is a one day (LSCB) or two day (staff) course. Kinship Care is a key component of seeking to secure the optimal outcomes for children who might not be able to live with their natural parents. It forms a necessary part of the assessment process within Care Proceedings under the Public Law Outline. There are many complexities within the assessment of suitable Kinship carers as possible alternative carers to Public Care or full rehabilitation back to the family of origin. For example: Causative Paths: - what is the family history and does this have anything to say regarding behaviours which have led to concerns regarding the care of the child within its original family. This will include issues of Attachment. Contact issues: - this is a complexity within itself. Parenting Quality: - will this be "good enough" within the kinship care arrangement and how best assessed? Optimising outcomes: - will kinship care optimise the child's outcome or is it a resource driven outcome? What is of special importance here is social care workers having the Tools to do this assessment job. Learning Objectives:
This course may be very usefully combined with other Osiris courses (as per links above). We would especially recommend our Attachment training.
