LOOKED AFTER CHILDRENThis one-day course begins with the history, ethos and procedures of the DoH Looked After Children (LAC) system of forms which has now grown to become the computerised Integrated Children's System. Please also see our Contact course option and Attachment Theory options. Learning Objectives: v
Develop knowledge of the
history of LAC in the U.K and the ethos and purpose of the DoH LAC v
Develop knowledge of research findings and outcomes for LAC,
including contact with parents and siblings v Develop knowledge on the indicators for positive outcomes for LAC including resilience factors. v Develop enhanced understanding and skills in Planning and Reviewing for LAC. v
Understand the role of the Local Adoption Agency and develop a
basic awareness of adoption philosophy The regulations and guidance (including Adoption guidance relating to all children in care) relating to LAC (or Children in Care) are referenced. We examine the concept of the “corporate parent” and the need to provide full and factual information to carers. The National Standards for Foster Care are referenced and the experiences of children that have gone through the care system are highlighted as well as the provisions of the Leaving Care Act and S24 of the Children Act. The vitally important subject of proper and careful Planning is addressed in some detail, as is the subject of sensitive and inclusive Reviewing. Included is a research based LAC Quiz questionnaire.
