MODELS OF MINDThis is a two-day course introducing the role of theory in terms of account of why and how something is happening and to enable (where possible) predictions to be made with respect to what happens if nothing is done and what will happen if certain interventions are made in certain circumstances. Theory, therefore, is essential to the analysis of information (giving it meaning) and the assessment of information (what choices to make and what risks to run) and decision-making. Theories of mind and behaviour are therefore central to working with people who experience difficulty in running their lives and in their interactions with others. Although this course is found within our Mental Health set of courses, it is offered generically across the board to C&F, Adults and Mental Health as it is primarily a course focussed on using Models of Mind for assessment and for informing interventions. The course starts with an overview of current perceptions in the philosophy of mind before moving to practical accounts and exercises designed to illustrate the use of theory in direct practice. LEARNING THEMES: by the end of the course, participants will have understanding and awareness re the importance of the following: · Attachment Theory · Basic Freudian Theory · Basic Jungian Theory · Behavioural Theory · Cognitive Behavioural Theory and Cognitive Analytic Theory · Rational-Emotive Therapy
