This is a two day course for qualified social workers (or equivalent). The course is rather packed and there is a handout and Risk Assessment Tools provided. A constricted one day special version is available for LSCB.

There is comparatively little literature on Pre-Birth assessment and even less on suitable assessment tools and procedures. This courses comprises a distillation of the best that is available.

Learning Objectives: participants will demonstrate enhanced knowledge and competence in relation to:

• Understanding the ethical difficulties of pre-birth assessmentThe concept of risk in relation to unborn children.

• Working in partnership when undertaking a pre-birth assessment.

• The main types of case which tend to trigger pre-birth assessments.
