REPORT WRITING

This course is a basic, albeit thorough, one day training in Report Writing. It is emphatically not a course on grammar or stylistic writing. It is presumed that participants can write grammatically and already possess an adaptable writing style.

Learning Objectives: develop understanding and skills regarding -

  • Information and meaning

  • Types of Report: from Letter-based Reports to Court Reports**

  • Purpose of the Report – clarity of purpose according to type of report.

  • Structure of Reports: structuring your report effectively

  • Report Content – beginning, middle and ending and (where needed) summary.

  • The Core Argument: analysis in Reports

  • Being logical – making sure your conclusion follows from your premises and analysis.                                                  

  • Statement Reliability Analysis Tool (exercise / handout)

  • Outcomes and the means to outcome (actions)

  • Key tips for Report Writing

 

** This course is not a Court Reporting course although the subject is referenced. Court Reporting is covered in considerably more detail on the Osiris Court Work & Court Process two day course or our Court Reports course.
