RISK MODELS

This is a one day course which examines and compares various social work risk models. The course is presented from a child care perspective but it remains accessible for workers from mental health who wish to examine risks from a family perspective.

The course works mainly from the presumption that participants will be able to apply the risk models to their own cases (scenarios are never good enough for this depth of work).

Risk Models examined and compared are:

  • Brearley

  • Stone

  • Greenland

  • Saqi and Browne

  • Hagell

  • Dalgleish & Drew

  • Samra-Tibbits and Raynes

  • Framework for Assessment

  • Fowler

Learning Objectives:

  • Develop understanding of the nature of risk

  • Develop understanding of the reasons for and use of a risk model

  • Develop understanding of the power of a risk model through using it and comparing it to other models

  • Critically evaluate risk models and their use.

This course relates to the following Osiris courses:

Analysis and AssessmentOutcomes; Risk Management; Error Theory; Neglect; Sexual Abuse (Victims); Sexual Abuse (Perpetrators); Attachment Theory; Emotional Harm; Domestic Violence; Pre-Birth Assessment.
