base of child protection (including personal values), basic risk, basic signs and symptoms; S17 and S47;
thresholds of “harm”; what to refer and how, the process of making a
referral and what happens next.

Stage 2 Common
Assessment Framework (CAF) Training (1 day)
|
CAF training for non
– Social Services staff. Takes
participants through the fundamentals of completing CAF. We would
recommend that all participants have completed
Stage 1 or equivalent.

Stage 3 Child
Protection
Safeguarding & Promoting Welfare
(two days) This
course is normally taught above Stage 1 level but a special version
combining Stage 1 is available. |
Basic risk theory, the
difference between analysis and assessment; normative models; Initial and
Core Assessment processes; S17 and S47; the Framework for Assessment; value base; thresholds of
“harm”; role play Case Conference; Partnership working with other
agencies and families; framing outcomes that
make sense and which are testable.

Stage 4 Child
Protection
(advanced two days) |
Analysis
and Assessment; working with various models of risk; the Framework for
Assessment as a “Risk” model; the process of Core Assessment in
detail; Outcomes and their formulation and
testability.
Risk
definition and the 6 dimensions of Risk are also included.
This course includes a generic but
extensive Osiris Assessing Risk Tool. If time is available the
course contains some information on Error Theory.

Stage 5 Child
Protection: Error Theory and Mistakes (minimum 1 day). This
essential aspect of Risk Management
is
intended for Managers / Senior Practitioners or very experienced workers.
It is most definitely NOT suitable for unqualified social care staff or
even some qualified staff from non-social services agencies.

Risk Management, Risk perception,
Objective / subjective probability theory; the nature of probability; risk
ready and risk adverse strategies; game theory and partnership working;
decision theory and models of decision and a detailed exposition on the
nature of error and mistakes deriving from decision theory research and
child death Inquiries.

Please note that we are perfectly happy
to run "combined" training events where several Children's
Department's club together to buy in places on a course. This arrangement can
sometimes better enable training events to be arranged for very experienced
staff who often miss out on training because they are comparatively few in
number within any single Department. Contact us
